The instructions said to sew the strip blocks into six rows of six blocks each.
I interpreted that as 8 rows of 5 blocks each. It's 74 x 47.
Will it look utterly stupid if I make the border extra wide on the long sides to make up for the lack of width?

LOL,
They are your boarders! You can make them how ever big you want and I promise the quilt police will NOT come knocking!
BTW, I love the colors, I have seen two of these stacked coin quilts recently both bright and vibrant. I think I may have to make one soon.
No it will not! Borders are just another design detail that is left to the discretion of the artist.
You could put strips going the other direction for the side borders...I think it will look fine.
I actually think because the individual blocks are vertical that borders on the side only would look really cool. I debated doing this on a quilt recently too. Decided against it for that pattern, but on this one I think it would be a good solution - and look great too!
no it won'tlook weird ...
its supposed to be fun!
looks great to me

Just a minute... I gotta find my quilting handbook among my books that are shelved alphabetically. Give me a minute please while I find what the protocol will be. Well, sorry to say, I can't find it. Let me leave my "dream" world and look through my pile of books falling over with material shoved in between. Dang, pile fell and cat took off with a bobbin. :D LOL
Whatever your little heart desires hon! Remember - each quilt is as unique as its creator ;) :)

No they wont look stupid at all, in fact I think it will frame it nicely. This piece is gorgeous already. I cant wait to see it done!
I see nothing crooked in this one. -wink- Just squint a little and you won't either. Looks great, regardless!
