Over the week that we were all snowed in, and both schools and my husband's employer were closed, I took the opportunity to begin the process of moving the kids into their new dungeon...excuse me, bedroom...and moving my things into what would become my new sewing room. Harper was desperate to help, in order to move the process along, but she's so spindly and clumsy you can't give her much to carry, so I'd hand her a single piece of paper or a fat quarter and say, "Here! Find a good place for this!" And I'd discover that she had placed it in the middle of the floor or that she went to the bathroom on the way and set it down next to the toilet and forgot about it. But at least she was occupied!
The room still needs work, as the children's bookshelves are still here as well as Harper's dresser, which requires a forklift to move. I also have yet to remove the Maurice Sendak prints or the photos from High School Musical that Harper printed out and taped to the wall several weeks ago in an attempt to customize the decor. Zac Efron is kinda cute.
It's not in the pictures yet, because it's just kind of shoved into an available space until I get those bookshelves out, but yesterday we went to Ikea and along with a new bed for Harper, we also got a chaise lounge for my room. So when I feel that I am going to positively swoon from the happiness of having my own room, I can land on something cushy right in front of the TV.
And in the time I have had my room set up? I have sewn exactly ONE HALF OF A BLOCK! It was still worth it.

Are those telescoping legs on your cutting table? And where did you get the cutting table? I took over my son's bedroom when he moved into his cave, I mean the basement and it has made a hug, positive difference! I just need a taller table to cut and pin on....
Sometimes I don't even sew in there, sometimes I just sit and fondle fabric.
WOW and yes I'm jealous. I have a room where my computer and sewing stuff are, but they need to be arranged so I have room to move around. It's looking good. cindy
That is a terrific space!
Great room! Yes, I am jealous--of the light! I also must know where you got the cutting table. It looks like it could save my back.
hahaha...I'm glad I'm not the only one with a scorched ironing board cover! The room looks great. If I were the kids mom, I'd probably confiscate those shelves for my own books (and fabric). Reading's overrated anyway...right?
The room looks great. Congrats!
yes so jealous I am turning green which would be nice if it was St. Patrick's day, I can not even walk in my sewing room right now.
I envy the light in your room...I have such a tiny window that also doubles as the escape route for the second floor...LOL Like I could really fit out of that window.
Looking good!
Okay, so I'm jealous, too. Wow, your very own sewing room. I am making progress at getting organized, but I'll still have my stuff in at least 3 rooms and 2 floors.
LOVE Ikea!!!! Your room is so bright and sunny (maybe the blinding reflection of all of the snow outside?) My sewing room is large, but in the basement with two very small windows -sigh.
I have my own room but it is a small one. I envy your space!
very nice!
I love your room. How wonderful for you and what a perfect time for you to get your own space.
Wonderful!! I can tell you are going to be sooooo productive in the new space, or close the door and hiding is good too!! Congrats on the space!!
Nice room! I wish I had done this in our snow storm. We have more coming maybe I can get to it. I love your ironing board cover it reminds me of mine. LOL.
Chuckle, my word verification is porish--which you are probably feeling right now! Love the new room--wonderful light. And let's face it, the kids would much rather have a happy mom? I use my whole front room as my sewing room--the advantages of the kids leaving home and being single!!! Enjoy your space

Hard to be unproductive in such a great new space! Get to work! :)
I wanna see pics of the dungeon!
