Buoyed by my successful completion of a quilt last week, I bought some more batting and set about finishing the shark quilt top I had made for Harper over a year ago.
As I was pin basting it, I stabbed my thumb with one of the safety pins, not realizing that I had drawn blood until I saw a spot of red on one of the white strips of the quilt. Naturally, I said something unrepeatable and Harper wanted to know what had happened. I showed her my thumb and pointed to the blood spot on the quilt, and in typical Harper fashion, she raised her arms as if in victory and said, "You got BLOOD? On my SHARK QUILT? That is SO AWESOME!"
So I've decided to let the blood smear that I got on it when I let the sewing machine needle gouge another finger while I was quilting it be a surprise. 'Cause you know me. I'm a giver.

FYI: If you get blood on fabric, all you need to do is use your own spit and it will completely take the blood out. Sounds gross, but it works! (Longarmers rely on it, as strangers prefer to NOT have blood on theirs! hehe)
I have heard that solution before, and this would have been a good opportunity to try it, but Harper was genuinely pleased at having blood on her quilt. WHo am I to deny her?
Is this the same quilt you were saying was going so badly? It's looking pretty awesome to me!
PS Harper seems to have a sharply honed sense of irony for one so young. I wonder where she gets it? ;)
You are too funny! "I'm a giver" cracked me up! Blood with man eating sharks does give reality to that quilt...livens it up some :)
There has to be a reason that I love your blog. You do, so much, remind me of ME.
There has to be some reason why I love your blog so much. It must be because you remind me of . . . ME!
Ha! How appropriate for blood to be there..think Jaws..definately.
Well, you have my husband and me rolling on the floor laughing - and we haven't even eaten breakfast yet! It sounds like God gave you the perfect daughter - you are a matched pair. And thanks to Stephanie, for that awesome tip!!!

that child is awesome ! Love her connections.
ROFLMFAO!!!!!
My grandmother and great aunt were dressmakers to the rich and famous in New Orleans from the turn of the century to the mid-50's. Many of the ball gowns for the Rex and Comus Krewes were made in my grandmother's house, with my mother doing the grunt work sewing.
My grandmother always said: If you get blood on something you are making for someone else, that means they will love and cherish it.
glen: who hates garment sewing
What a good mommy! Giving your own blood to improve the design and make it more realistic! LOL

The.best.kid.ever!
Of *course* the shark quilt needed blood on it!
I think you should echo quilt that blood spot to make it really stand out.
lol as long as she's happy I don't blame you for keeping it on there. If at any point she decides she's had enough blood there's a product made by Carbona that works like a charm!
Sounds like you made the owner of the quilt very, very happy.....too funny!
