New project

I decided recently, spurred on by Linda Poole's "I'm Making a Quilt for Me" challenge, to - wait for it - make a quilt for me! I've had a big fat quarter bundle of Hoffman batiks sitting on my shelf looking all pretty and mocking me with their bright colors, along with several yards of bright white Kona cotton. As usual, I have no set plan yet, because that would involve thinking, and I do enough of that already, thank you very much.

So this weekend, while the kids commandeered my computer for playing games and watching princess videos, I cut 90 8-inch squares of batiks and 90 8-inch squares of Kona, and started making 720 HST blocks.

Harper felt her input was needed:

48 down, 672 to go!

  2. Wow!! You've got a great start and I'm sure trying different layouts will inspire some spicy posts! Btw, I love my new t-shirt....it's pink and provides a warning ;) Cafe Press was quick with their delivery, too.

  3. Wow! I'm such a sucker for Batiks. I just found out that Hoffman is introducing new colors of the Bali Pops. I definitely don't need more pre-cuts right now so it's a good thing they aren't shipping until October. I would love to be a fly on your design wall for this one. There are so many possibilities!

My quilt for myself is still folded up in my project drawer waiting to be sent off for quilting or for me to decide I can take on a big quilt with my little Bernina 1260.

  7. Very cool! Love the batiks, and HSTs are my current favorite! I need to make one for myself, too (or at least for my hubby - he keeps complaining about sleeping under a store-bought quilt!) but as long as I'm sewing for my church's quilt ministry, it seems like I'm always making one for someone else! Oh well, at least it's a good cause! I can't wait to see how yours turns out!

    Love the colors!

I, too, have yet to make "my" quilt. I've got one to finish for my sister and one for a friend.

Then, on Saturday I finally found the perfect fabric for a quilt for my mother. Ever hear of Maxine? The crabby old lady comic? They have fabric of her! It was perfect! Since my mother is getting on in years, I feel like I need to make her quilt before I make mine.

Have fun with yours! (Your quilt...)

  9. Good for you! Love batiks, all the bright colors. I've made several quilts just for me. Don't actully have them, lol, I am a sucker for people saying they like the quilts and wished they had one. Hubby says we will never have one if I keep giving them away. I say I'm lucky and blessed to just to be able to make them.
