As I was pin basting it, I stabbed my thumb with one of the safety pins, not realizing that I had drawn blood until I saw a spot of red on one of the white strips of the quilt. Naturally, I said something unrepeatable and Harper wanted to know what had happened. I showed her my thumb and pointed to the blood spot on the quilt, and in typical Harper fashion, she raised her arms as if in victory and said, "You got BLOOD? On my SHARK QUILT? That is SO AWESOME!"
So I've decided to let the blood smear that I got on it when I let the sewing machine needle gouge another finger while I was quilting it be a surprise. 'Cause you know me. I'm a giver.
FYI: If you get blood on fabric, all you need to do is use your own spit and it will completely take the blood out. Sounds gross, but it works! (Longarmers rely on it, as strangers prefer to NOT have blood on theirs! hehe)
ReplyDeleteI have heard that solution before, and this would have been a good opportunity to try it, but Harper was genuinely pleased at having blood on her quilt. WHo am I to deny her?

ReplyDeleteMy grandmother and great aunt were dressmakers to the rich and famous in New Orleans from the turn of the century to the mid-50's. Many of the ball gowns for the Rex and Comus Krewes were made in my grandmother's house, with my mother doing the grunt work sewing.

I think you should echo quilt that blood spot to make it really stand out.
lol as long as she's happy I don't blame you for keeping it on there. If at any point she decides she's had enough blood there's a product made by Carbona that works like a charm!
