F**k Cancer

WHASSUP, MAH BITCHES?

Did you miss me? I sure as hell missed you, and I hope to be back on my game here, posting with alarming frequency. I was able to visit with my brother recently, and while I still spend a good portion of each day crying hysterically, I have also learned a great deal about taking life by the horns and not letting go. Thus abandoning my beloved blog is simply not going to happen. Never give up the things you love, and never let go of the people you love. You feel me?

NOW THEN. My sister works in a quilt shop in Goodlettsville, just north of Nashville, and so while I was there I got to spend oodles of time in the shop after hours. Oh, let me tell you, there is nothing, NOTHING, as cool as having a quilt shop all to yourself. No one in my way, stepping on my feet, leaving gaseous odors right in the areas where I need to browse (this happens ALL THE TIME), or grabbing the last batik fat quarter in just the shade of purple I need to complete my project. I do so hate having to smack those people around.

Being in the shop was particularly cool, because for the first time, I got to see so many of the quilts that my sister makes for display. And not just because it was the first time in many, many years I had been to Tennessee, but also because my sister - whom I love dearly - cannot pick up a camera, take some shots, upload them to her computer, and email them to a beloved relative. The woman is still holding onto shots from last June IN HER CAMERA. If she wants to show you her motorcycle trip to the southwest, she has to hand you the camera. GOD, I adore her.

So now, Kelly, if you ever want to show someone your quilts, you can direct them here. Oh, wait, you don't know how to do that either. OOOOH, YOU ARE JUST SO CUTE.

DO YOU SEE WHAT I HAVE TO LIVE UP TO, PEOPLE? The only thing that soothes my ego when I look at these pictures is that I know how to access the voicemail on my cellphone AND SHE DOESN'T. You can't be better than me at everything, Kelly.

The one thing I regret not photographing while I was there was her fabric stash. Holy mother of bias tape, you have never seen such stacks. Well, okay, maybe you have, but I haven't. AND I got to sleep in the same room as all that fabric, underneath even more of her gorgeous quilts. By the time I got home I was so hot to get to my sewing machine, I barely remembered to say hello to the children.

I'm pretty sure I have exceeded the limit for the reasonable number of photos in one blog post, so I'll save the pictures of what I purchased for next time. Sadly, there will not be as many pictures, but probably just as many all caps, IF NOT MORE.

  2. HOLLAH AT YA GIRLZS!

Yeah, I know. I rarely comment & I'm some random stranger, but a nice one who is a regualr reader. :D

Also? I was just at my friend's house last night who uses her camera like your sister does. Oy.

So far I've seen two quilts up there I'd LOVE to make, plus I am in admiration of your sister's patience. Holy mother of triangles!

(just so we can make the stalking mutual, here's my flickr - http://www.flickr.com/photos/andrea_r/ )

p.s. - hope your brother gets back on his feet soon. We did some cancer ass-kicking here too.

  6. Your title drew me in since we just found out my mom has what they call "smoldering" myeloma, which is actually good because they caught it early, it's treatable but not curable, so we have some good time with her left.
But really made me laugh was your comment about gaseous odors. My friends think I'm crazy because it seems that every quilt show I attend, I get behind the people who feel it's okay to let it loose in a big crowd. YUK! I always think the people behind me think it's me.
Welcome back and you're sisters quilts are awesome - but you should never compare youself.

  8. LOVE the post title and can't agree more. Missed your quilting posts and WOW what a quilter your sister is. Seems to me she is too busy quilting to do any of those things you said she can't do. Welcome "home"

  9. Missed you. Now, woman, can you please provide the name of the pattern with the dog and cat? A good blogger would have a direct link so we, gentle readers, could immediately purchase said cuteness! And I make quilts for a local humane society to raffle and that one would be perfect!
    Your sister's work is AWESOME!

PS: My Dad has surgery for a brain tumor in a month, so I am with you on the title of this post.

  11. Hey Megan, so glad to see you're back! Thanks for the link to your sister's shop. She has some gorgeous pictures of her bolts and bolts of fabrics. She doesn't seem to have an online store (bummer!), but I've contacted her for names and prices of some of those gorgeous quilts!
I'm glad you were able to have some really good quality time with your brother.

  12. Oh, wow your sister rocks! That is quite alot to live up to, but what fun to try. I'm so sorry about your brother. It is a year ago I lost my big brother. He was only 63 years old. He had a lung disease that destroyed his lungs. He had a double lung transplant and after a year died from complications of everything. It was a struggle. I miss him alot. I'll be thinking of you and your family. Be back to check on you. Stay strong! Take care.

Your sister is pretty much a quilting goddess. You're not too bad yourself!

And you can up load photos and use a cell phone. You win.

  15. Totally agree with your post title.

Man!!!! Your sister needs a blog and some camera lessons, what beautiful quilts, thank for showing them off to the rest of the world.

Very wary about letting quilter sleep in my sewing room..... did she check your bags before you left?

  16. Welcome back, you were sorely missed. With all that quilt talent in the family, you should be a natural. Glad you came back revved up and raring to stitch. How did your daughter's surgery go? Hope she is back to normal. Michele

  17. Oh, Oh, Oh.....I found the pattern for Pickled Pigs Fleet at www.javahousequilts.com

*S*......amazing what happens when you bring up the size of a pic that has a label on it.

Oh....and welcome back, from a new reader of your blog.

  18. You go girl! Grab that life!
I love the quilts, I think I would have to move in with my sister if she had a quilt store and was that talented. She is about 2 hours from me, I may have to make that trip to see the quilts in person.

  19. Heh Megan,

I read your article "A Brief History of Quilting" in Quilter's Home mag. Terrific and made me laugh when I really needed a good laugh. Soooo... I checked out your blog, and found out you are one bitchin' sister -just like me. I am an "artsy fartsy wall-hanging" quilter (there's got to be a better name than wall hanging, sounds like the Inquisition) like those who make "SHOCKING QUILTS" (shocking is Darfur!). My new blog is called Quilting from the Gut: Quilter's as Activists. The article about these quilts and the reactions from readers and newspaper's really pissed me off, and now I am searching for other non-traditional quilters with a political, social, spiritual, or personal message. No more Ms's nice girl ! I'm on a mission. My blog is new so I haven't loaded all my quilts, but will be on board soon.
