A Half-Assed Crappy Giveaway!

Husband is back at work and kids are at daycare/school, and I am relatively awake, if not completely caught up with everything that went to HELL while I was playing nursemaid. The windows still rattle all through the night from the percussion of three nasty coughs, and the toddler has decided she doesn't feel like falling asleep until 10 p.m. or so, but the snot wave has receded somewhat and I'm all about finding that ol' silver lining.

Since I beat the seriously astronomical odds and won a layer cake over at Confounded By Quilting, I realized I hadn't done a giveaway in a long time. Then I discovered that Sew Mama Sew is sponsoring a Giveaway Day, and I thought that would be a cool way to unload some of my crap - I mean, bestow upon my beloved readers some quilty goodness. Aw, hell - I'm unloading crap.

When my mom broke down her sewing room, she gave me what was left of her fabric. Unfortunately, my taste and my mother's do not exactly coincide. I tend to use a lot of bold colors and jewel tones, and I prefer large scale or modern, stylized prints. I've been hanging onto these for 8 months or so, and haven't touched a one, so I thought perhaps someone out there would like to have them.

Now here's where the half-assed and crappy part comes in: I have no idea how many fabrics there are, nor how big they are. I am assuming that most are at least the size of a fat quarter, but I think many are bigger. I do not know if they are "quilt shop quality." I am, however, certain that there are no hidden hypodermic needles or poisonous snakes. Hey, there's that silver lining again!

Deadline for entry is December 6 at midnight, EST. To win, leave a comment to this post, explaining why you want to win my crappy, half-assed giveaway, and the winner will be chosen at random and announced on December 7.

Good luck!

  4. because your crap would fit in wonderfully with MY crap! the fun part is your crap is in different colors than my crap for the most part. finally figured out if i add enough different colors that don't go together, a small cosmic spark is born...forcing all the colors/patterns to play well with each other. oh, and the kid remarks that my scrap quilts are more like "crap quilts". she much prefers everything co-ordinated. must of gotten the wrong kid at the hospital.

    Megan,
I do believe I could have bitching good time tearing into that pile of crap. Some of best projects begin with crap.
Thanks for offering a chance at a giveaway!

  19. Throwing my hands up to catch the "bouquet." I plan to make another Heartstrings donation quilt soon, and that fabric would make the string blocks all the more interesting! Lime green and purple? Heck yeah!

  20. I want to win! To quote/paraphrase George Carlin on the difference between crap and stuff: My crap is stuff and your stuff is crap :-) I use fresh crap/stuff in I-spy and charity quilts.

  21. It would be fun to find out what you consider crap. LOL

  23. I would love to win your crappy half-assed giveaway because it obviously needs someone who will stroke it and talk to it and make it feel needed. Thanks for the chance!

    ReplyDelete
  24. I'd like to win your crappy giveaway because I prefer to cut my fabrics up into very small pieces, so every color and pattern can blend. Also, I'm stash building, so I never say no to fabric!

    ReplyDelete
  25. I am not entering cause I told myself I couldn't enter any more contests until I have one of my own. And I haven't posted on my blog in two months! But your post just cracks me up!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  26. I'm relatively new to your blog and a very big fan of crap, in general. Hubby will attest to this fact as I'm tryin' very hard to fill the entire house with as much crap as possible. Thanks for including me in this fantastic giveaway! Ahhh...what I could do with such lovely crap!

    ReplyDelete
  27. I would love to win your crap. It would go with the crap my mom gave me that is working its way into quilts. I actually like those colors. Hope everyone is totally healthy soon. Jill

  29. Hmm, the purple and lime would fit so nicely in my stash. I would be so grateful. I might even use it! May the crap come to me!

    ReplyDelete
  30. My mom gave me most of her fabric stash this summer. And I am happy to say that even though alot of the fabric was not my style I used almost every inch of it. I would love to put your mothers stash to good use also.

    ReplyDelete

  33. It would feel right at home with the rest of my crap fabric. And crap that's not fabric. And (occasionally) fabric that's not crap.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I need to have that crap! My husband and I share our basement - and his half (computer stuff) is gaining on my half (quilting, scrapbooking, other crafts) so the more I have, the more space I need - right?

    ReplyDelete
  35. I'd love to win your crappy half-assed giveaway because, honestly, I'm completely indiscriminate when it comes to fabric. Most of my stash comes from the remnants bin at the Walmart. It's unlikely that your crap is any crappier than my existing crap.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I would LOVE to hoard your crap!! I might share some of it with my friend who loves purples, but I'd keep the blue crap for myself. The rest I'd probably donate to the guild to add to their crap. So in essence, I'd just spread the crap all around!!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Ack - people actually buy that crap? (I like the lime piece...)

& thanks to that random guy who is trying to sell us crappy shoes!

If I win, send them to Andi - since she will use them for charity. (or anyone else who will use them for charity - I just recognized her face as I scrolled down the list of entrants.)

    ReplyDelete
  38. I would love to win because I think that although we may not see what that crappy fabric will turn into - it might turn into something fun and cool. I know that when I was given some a while ago I was not appreciative until I had the perfect use for it. Now I love my crappy stack.... it might take a while to be used but with time I will enjoy it all. :)

    ReplyDelete
  52. I'm pretty into this give-away. I really like the "grab-bag" feel of it, well - that and the brown fabric with purple flowers I can see hanging out in the tupper ware - love it!

    ReplyDelete
  53. What a fun giveaway! Winning would be like finding a treasure chest- you don't know what's inside but it's got to be good!

    ReplyDelete
  54. I liked reading your blog post (just an fyi I guess). I would like to win your giveaway cause I would like to build up my fabric stash. I just recently started getting seriously into sewing and find myself on weekends aching to make something, but just don't have any good fabrics to work with. All my pretty fabrics are too small to use now. So hopefully your mom and I have similar tastes (at least some of the fabric in the picture looked good).

    ReplyDelete
  55. Hi -- Love your attitude & can't afford to build a stash right now so anything for free would be great. Besides the surprise of it all is very intriguing.

    ReplyDelete

  59. I'm glad the snot wave has receded...thought for a bit there you might get stuck in a layer of green goo that would be permanent as it dried! I love half-assed giveaways......there's always the chance a real treasure could be lurking there. Besides, my tastes are quite eclectic, running from dark and subdued to loud and bold ;)

    ReplyDelete
  60. I think these colors look remarkably like spring: the brown of a witch hazel, purple of crocus and green of budding leaves. My 4 year old just decided that green is her new favorite color, lol. I would love to win your crap because we have gray winter days and I could use some cheer :)

    ReplyDelete

  66. I want to win because I have very little stash and would love to add to it!
thanks for the chance to win!

    ReplyDelete
  67. I'd love to win because I can never have too many fabrics! I make quilts for Project Linus and I see at least a couple of kid-friendly colors in there! I can use all the fabric I can get, I usually make scrappy strip quilts so that I can use up little dabs that I find at garage sales and such! :)

    ReplyDelete
  68. i'd like to win your crappy, half-assed giveaway because there could be some treasure in there that you don't like, that i'll love! :)

    ReplyDelete
  69. Even though crappy, some of those are small scale prints- which I like. It was wonderful of you to post a giveaway given your recent state. Really, not so half-assed with actual follow through.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Your crappy, half-assed fabric would fit perfectly with the rest of my stash, leftovers that no one else wanted. Yup, I'm a scrap quilter.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Because it's a surprise. I love surprises. Plus, I can always use more purple fabric.

  80. You make me laugh! From the little I can see, those fabrics aren't bad. I also like more modern bold prints, but for quilting and stuff, a lot of times I just need color variation, and the pattern somewhat disappears. Thanks for posting this giveaway!

    ReplyDelete
  81. well I love you honesty!! And I love you crap. Since I am new to this with small amount of money your crap will be of use here!!! I have a small stash from the last year of sewing!! I LOVE the color brown so most of my stuff has that!!!

    ReplyDelete
  82. When my mom gave up all her stuff from her sewing days she had bunches of that style of stuff and it made so much fun stuff as well. Besides, my husband has been out of work for a year and a half and I can't buy any stuff, crappy or otherwise, so it would be amazing to win. Thanks for the chance!!!!

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  102. I read through your blog and must say its super amusing, and am looking forward to reading future posts. I hope to win your crappy giveaway because its not crappy at all- when you have a husband in school and a 10 month old- that leaves very little money for buying fabric :) I'll take anything I can get! Thanks for giving away the crap you don't want :)

    ReplyDelete
  103. I'd love to win! Most of my fabric stash is hand-me-down fabric (from grandma, mom, & step-mom-in-law). When most of what I make is for other people I can usually find something that someone likes. Thanks for the chance & hope everyone is feeling better soon!

  136. I'd love to win your crappy giveaway because we, too, are infected with the crappy colds here. It would make me feel better - honest.

  140. I make lots of quilts for Project Linus so I'm always looking for sources of scrap fabric for that perfect. I could really use those fabrics!

  142. Oh I'd love to win your (NOT) crappy giveaway. I bought my first quilt template last week (tumbler) and I love a scrap quilts best.

  143. I love a bag of fabrics, regardless of not knowing exactly what's in it! Thanks!

  144. I'd like to win because that would be a great way for me to grow my tiny little stash! Also, because I went to Severna Park High... hence my finding your blog.

  145. I'd love to win such a treasure chest of this and that. Thanks for the chance to win!

  146. I'd like to win your crappy, half-assed giveaway because I don't have enough money to purchase my own crap; I am reduced to begging for your leftovers.

Speaking of leftovers, send in the hypodermic needles. At least when my friends ask if I'm getting poked it won't be such a lie.

I'm going to add myself as a stalker. I mean follower. same difference. fewer cats I think. not sure.

  147. Hi Megan -- why me? Well I enjoy a challenge of trying to figure out what to do with disjointed fabrics. Surely they will go with something in my stash. If not they get cut up and go into string blocks. Will be watching!

  148. Hey I like to find the rose amongst the thorns. I would like to win this fabric and see if I can make something wonderful out of it. Thanks

    ReplyDelete
  149. Well, I want it because you are freaking hilarious and that alone deserves an entry! HA! And...quite frankly, I find that collecting other people's crap tends to be a hobby of mine that leads to GENIUS crafting. No...really...I couldn't make this stuff up. It's just the way it is. Plus...even ugly fabric can be cute if you tear it into strips and use it as ribbon on a scrapbook page...anything can happen, my friend. Anything can happen.

  150. I planned to have something to give for Giveaway Day for months. Today I opened the computer to start setting mine up -- waaaay before the Sunday deadline. Then I realized that Giveaway was already going on. And had been. Since Wednesday. This is not half-assed, this is no-assed. (Or whole-assed? Which would it be?) I know... I'm just a jackass. For this reason, I need your crappy giveaway. You may be lacking in details about your items, but as a fabric junkie, your giveaway is perfect for me!

Thanks for the chance to enter! I've been meticulously going through and entering every one of these all day (because I'm a dork like that) and your blog has made me laugh the most. I'm subscribing!

  154. I would love to win your giveaway - its always fun to get new fabric. If I win I'll be taking it to my kids at school. We are going to be making lap quilts for the local rest home after Christmas, and any fabric will be very, very welcomed.
    Thanks for the giveaway.

  156. I am a bit of a half-asser myself. I'd love to have these fabrics because I make things out of scraps and leftovers, and these count. I live in rural Maine and no one wants bright colorful things like I do, so I need to start making them things out of slightly crappier fabric :P
Thanks for the chance at your giveaway!

  157. I would love to win your giveaway because fabric is fabric and can always be used for something.... I do lots of swaps and I never have enough fabric to match interests. I think this would be a great addition to my stash! Thanks for what I think is a great giveaway!

  160. To a child that has almost nothing, those 'crappy fabrics' made into a quilt, would elevate the fabrics to something special. I bet there are several quilts lurking there; or, at least, several quilt tops.
Sorry you've had the epizootics; it's always a bad time to be sick.

  161. I don't think is a crappy giveaway at all - I would love to have this fabric (whatever it is, however big the sizes!) for my nonexistent stash. Thanks for the giveaway!

  162. I just love crap that I can stuff into my sewing room until I figure out what to do with it. It will go great with all the other useless crap I have in there! I keep stumbling upon your blog kind of randomly. I love your sense of humor! It feels like fate, so I'm off to add myself as a follow. Thanks for the half-assed giveaway!

  163. Oh I'd love to win! I totally love your "attitude" that I've read so far on your blog. Loved it so much that I became a "follower." I can totally relate. I just smiled when I read your posts.

So, it's because of your oh-so-sweet, cheerful and umm...not-bitchy attitude that I'd like to win. LOL! Thank so much!

  164. I would love to win your crap, er...giveaway because I am working on clothes for the dolls I'm making for my kids for the holidays, which requires fabric. Plus, I spy purple. Can't go wrong with purple.
